“Silent Night” by Mariah Carey is her first Christmas album and the fourth studio album she released. The album includes both cover versions of popular Christmas songs and original tracks.

Collaborating with Walter Afanasieff, Carey co-wrote all the original songs and also produced her versions of the cover songs. The album has a contemporary holiday theme with authentic, gospel-flavored background vocals. Notably, the single “All I Want for Christmas Is You” from this album became one of the best-selling singles of all time.
